How to Create a Google Review Link (Free, 2 Minutes)

Step-by-step guide to finding and creating your Google Business Profile review link so customers can leave a review in one tap.

How to Create a Google Review Link (Free, 2 Minutes)

A Google review link is the direct URL that takes anyone straight to your Google review form, no searching, no navigating, no app required. Creating one takes about 2 minutes and it's completely free.

What is a Google review link?

It looks like this:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_PLACE_ID

Anyone who clicks it lands directly on the "write a review" dialog for your Google Business Profile. That's the link you want to put in your SMS messages, QR codes, email signatures, and anywhere else you ask for reviews.

Step 1: Find your Google Place ID

Your Place ID is a unique identifier Google uses for your business. Here's how to find it:

  1. Go to Google Maps and search for your business name
  2. Click on your business listing to open the panel on the left
  3. Look at the URL in your browser, it contains your Place ID after place_id:

Alternatively, use Google's official Place ID Finder tool, type your business name, click it on the map, and your Place ID appears below.

It looks something like: ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4

Skip the manual steps, generate your link in 30 seconds

Our free tool finds your Place ID automatically. Search your business name and your Google review link is ready instantly, no copy-pasting required.

Step 2: Build the review link

Once you have your Place ID, paste it into this URL:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=PASTE_YOUR_PLACE_ID_HERE

Test it by opening it in a browser. It should open Google Maps and show the review dialog for your business.

Step 3: Shorten the link

The raw review URL is long and ugly, nobody types it manually. You have two options:

  • Use a free URL shortener, services like Bitly create a short link like bit.ly/yourreview
  • Use RateInvite, every RateInvite account gets a clean short link (rateinvite.com/r/yourcode) that tracks clicks and connects to your SMS follow-up system

Step 4: Put it everywhere

Once you have your link, use it in:

  • QR codes, print it on signs, receipts, invoices, and table tents (how to make a review QR code)
  • SMS messages, send it to customers after their visit (SMS review request guide)
  • Email signatures, add "Leave us a Google review" to every outgoing email
  • Your website, add a "Review us on Google" button
  • Social media bio, link to it in your Instagram or Facebook bio

The faster way: use the free generator

Instead of hunting for your Place ID manually, use our Free Google Review Link Generator. Search your business by name, and we'll generate your review link and a downloadable QR code in under 30 seconds.

What if I can't find my Place ID?

If your business doesn't appear in Google Maps search, you may need to claim or create your Google Business Profile first:

  1. Go to business.google.com
  2. Sign in with your Google account
  3. Search for your business or click "Add your business to Google"
  4. Follow the verification steps (usually a postcard or phone call)

Once verified, your business will appear in Maps and you can generate your review link.

The difference between a review link and a QR code

A review link is a URL, it's what you share digitally. A QR code is just a visual representation of that same URL, it's what you print physically. They both take the customer to the same place. You need both: the link for digital channels, the QR code for in-store and printed materials.
