How to Make a QR Code for Google Reviews

Create a free QR code that links directly to your Google reviews page, then print it on a sign, receipt, or table tent.

How to Make a QR Code for Google Reviews

A QR code is the fastest way to turn a happy customer into a Google reviewer. One scan, and they're on your review page. No typing, no searching, no friction. This guide covers how to make one for free and where to put it for maximum results.

What you need before you start

You only need one thing: your Google review link. This is the direct URL that opens your Google review form. If you don't have it yet, follow this guide to create your Google review link first, it takes about 2 minutes.

Option 1: Use our free QR generator (fastest)

Go to RateInvite's Free Review Link Generator. Search your business, and we'll generate your review link and a downloadable QR code in one step. No account required.

Option 2: Use a free QR code tool

If you already have your Google review link, you can generate a QR code with any of these free tools:

  • QR Code Generator (qr-code-generator.com), free, no account needed
  • Canva, has a built-in QR code element if you're designing a sign
  • Adobe Express, free QR code tool with basic customization

Paste your Google review link, generate the QR code, and download it as a PNG or SVG. Use SVG if you're printing at large sizes, it scales without losing quality.

How to make the QR code look professional

A bare QR code on a white background works, but a sign works far better. Add:

  • A clear headline above the QR: "Leave us a Google review"
  • A short line below: "Scan with your phone camera, it takes 60 seconds"
  • Your business name or logo
  • Google's logo or the Google star icon so customers know where they're going

Canva has free sign templates you can customize with your QR code.

What size should you print it?

QR codes need to be large enough to scan reliably:

  • Table tent or counter card: at least 1.5 × 1.5 inches (4 cm)
  • Full sign or poster: 3 × 3 inches or larger is ideal
  • Receipt footer: 0.75 × 0.75 inches minimum, test with a phone before printing in bulk
  • Window cling or foam board: 4 × 4 inches or larger for visibility from 3–6 feet

Where to place it for maximum scans

Placement is everything. The best spots are where customers are physically stationary and emotionally satisfied:

Test your QR code before printing

Before you order 500 printed receipts or a foam board sign, test the QR code with multiple phones:

  1. Open the camera app (no separate QR app needed on modern iPhones and Android)
  2. Point it at the QR code
  3. Tap the notification banner that appears
  4. Confirm it opens your Google review page

Test at the actual print size, not just on screen. Small QR codes with complex URLs can fail to scan if printed too small.

Free vs. paid QR codes: what's the difference?

A free QR code links directly to your Google review URL. It works, it's permanent, and you own it.

A tracked QR code (like the ones RateInvite provides) routes customers through a short-link page that logs each scan, so you can see how many people used it, when, and whether they completed a review. You also get a branded landing page and SMS follow-up for customers who scan but don't complete the review.
